Miss A O'Hare
Mr R. Birchall
Science, as a subject, builds and organises our knowledge of all aspects of life. We investigate in the form of testable explanations and make predictions to enable us to better understand the world around us.
The study of science is subdivided into the natural sciences of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Through studying in each of these disciplines we are able to underpin concepts in areas such as engineering, medicine and pharmaceuticals.
Our new KS3 Science Syllabus organises the big ideas and topics of the programme of study into clear objectives. It is designed to build interest and intrigue in the world around us through big ideas, key concepts and practical work. The skills developed provide the foundation for success at KS4.
Through our syllabus we delve deeper into the theory and understanding of Science from our work in KS3. Students’ enthusiasm and awe of the natural world is enhanced through practical work at a higher level. This approach is built into students’ programmes of study where they explore different concepts, conclude their observations and evaluate their findings.
We are proud of our strong team of specialist teachers of Chemistry, Biology and Physics so that we can offer specialist teaching to students to better help them understand the concepts. We pride ourselves on our range of experimental equipment, which allows our students to have ‘hands on’ experience and we firmly believe that this contributes to our excellent results year on year.
