At Lathom High School reading is of upmost importance. We passionately believe that reading for pleasure helps students to improve their literacy levels and future life chances.
We have an excellent Library which stocks a range of interesting literature. Students are able to take out two books at a time and they are responsible for looking after them and paying any fines for late/lost books.
We use Accelerated Reader to track students reading and it forms an individualised online reading record for each student. The system allows students to take quizzes on books and it will count the number of words that they have read.
We use Eclipse to run our library system. Students can log in to create reviews for books that they have read or reserve new books.
As a school we take the literacy of our students very seriously. We ensure that students are supported through a series of targeted and focussed interventions.
Tutor time is used to promote and develop students speaking and listening skills. We feel that developing spoken confidence is reflected in the written responses that students produce.
We have a literacy coordinator who works with each department to ensure that literacy is addressed throughout the school in every lesson.
