BTEC KS4 SEPT 2026


At KS4 students can also opt for:

  • Health and Social Care BTEC Award Level 1/2
  • Travel and Tourism BTEC Award Level 1/2

Both of these subjects follow these core principles:

  • The curriculum offered to students will be accessible to all and provide all students with opportunities to be challenged, to think hard and to extend their learning
  • There will be opportunities to apply knowledge and skills in realistic scenarios
  • Students will develop their vocabulary, reading and communication skills by practising the use of substantive concepts within the subject area

Lessons will:

  • Provide clear instructions for students
  • Provide meaningful feedback where appropriate
  • Ensure there are opportunities for students to respond to feedback
  • Use a range of techniques to record information and learning, and to check understanding

Health and Social Care

This new course is designed to introduce students to the health and social care sector; students will gain valuable knowledge and skills which are the foundations for working in this sector, where there are a large number of roles within the local area. This will include some of the skills that are used by health care professionals such as: assessing health and wellbeing; making recommendations to improve health and wellbeing and the importance of care values.

You will study 3 components:

  1. Human Lifespan Development
  2. Health and Social Care Services and Values
  3. Health and Wellbeing

Components 1 and 2 are assessed through internal assessment and Component 3 will be assessed through an examination.

This is a perfect time to study Travel and Tourism; it is currently the UK’s third largest Employer, employing over 3 million people and contributing over £1220 billion to GDP of the UK. It is also one of the fastest growing employment sectors, with a wide-range of jobs and roles. Studying Travel and Tourism will give you an insight into the foundational knowledge and skills you need to take advantage of these opportunities.

  1. Travel and Tourism Organisations and Destinations
  2. Customer Needs
  3. Influences on Global Travel and Tourism
