Work hard, be kind

Ofsted GOOD rating

9 September 2022 | News

We are delighted to attach the report from the Ofsted inspection which took place on 14 and 15 June 2022.

As you will see, Lathom High School is now judged to be GOOD in all areas. We are so PROUD of this outcome. It is nothing less than our Lathom family deserves. It is testament to the vision, dedication and commitment which has been shown by the staff team and governors and the hard work from the students themselves. The process was thorough and fair and the feedback we received recognised and validated the work that has been undertaken, the improvements seen here and the true progress we have made.

Here are some of the key highlights from the full report, which is now available for parents on the school website and will be live on the Ofsted website from Thursday 15 September 2022:

  • Pupils experience a much stronger education than they did in the past
  • Staff have high expectations of pupils’ learning and behaviour
  • Pupils enjoy attending school and appreciate the caring and friendly atmosphere
  • Pupils feel safe
  • Pupils are courteous and respectful
  • Classrooms are calm places to learn
  • Leaders, staff and governors have successfully brought about improvements to the quality of education
  • Reading is promoted well across the school
  • Pupils show positive attitudes to learning
  • Learning is rarely disrupted

Staff are proud to work at the school

This has not been an easy journey by any means and there have been many testing moments along the way, but it is my firm belief that nothing great ever comes easy and this is great! It is a phenomenal outcome for our school, for our students, for our parents and carers, our wider community and for the town of Skelmersdale as a whole.

Lathom High School opened in 1987 and, although improvements were noted by Ofsted in the early days, it has never been a GOOD school. That changes now. We must celebrate it, along with the excellent examination results achieved by the Class of 2022, and recognise what it has taken to get here. Above all else we must be PROUD of our achievements.

We would like to thank you for the trust you have placed in us and your continued commitment to the school. We could not have done it without you.
