Lathom High School: Working hard produces superb results again!

Staff and students at Lathom High school are extremely proud of their GCSE achievements demonstrating that working hard to meet the high academic expectation of the new GCSE qualifications has produced superb results.

Strong Performances

Following their GCSE successes, students are able to move forward with the results they need for the next stage of their education and recognise the effort, commitment and care of their teachers who have supported and challenged them throughout their time at Lathom. Many subjects achieved strong performances, particularly English Language and Literature, History, French, Spanish, Art and ICT and in each of the Separate Sciences 85% of students achieved grade 4 or above with 31% of students achieving the top grades in these subjects. In addition, in GCSE PE 88% of students achieved grade 4 or above, 79% grade 5 or above and 25% were awarded the highest possible grades. Achievements were similarly impressive in GCSE Drama with 81% gaining grade 4 or above and 63% grade 5 or above. Grade 9, the highest result that can be achieved nationally, was awarded to Lathom students in 9 different subjects across the curriculum.

Continued Success

Lathom’s greatest success is seen in the range of subjects in which students achieve, including at the highest levels, as a result of the school’s commitment to a broad and balanced curriculum. This is despite the increased national focus on core subjects and the English Baccalaureate. Mrs Galbraith, Headteacher, said, “Our continued success is testament to the dedication and hard work of staff at Lathom, supported by families at home, and ensures that we can be extremely proud in celebrating the talents of all our students. I am delighted that our students are well placed to go on to further success in their life after Lathom.”
